چکیده

The stability of a beam in an RF accelerating cavity in a storage ring or circular accelerator has been studied by K. Robinsonl* 2 and many others. Robinson has found that under certain assumptions the beam-RF system with no feedback control is stable against “center-of-charge” oscillations if the cavity resonance frequency, wo, lies in restricted ranges. In particular, if ~0 is less than the RF frequency, Y, and the beam current is less than a critical value, IBC, the system is always stable. It may be possible, however, to increase the value of IBC and the range of stable frequency by the use of feedback. This possibility has been investigated for a beam-RF system with feedback control of the cavity voltage amplitude and phase.

SLAC -PUB-223 October 1966 MEASUREMENTS OF THE SLAC INJECTOR EMITTANCE*

The six-dimensional volume in phase space enclosing the beam from the SLAC injector has been measured. The design of the injector and preliminary measurements on the prototype injector were reported at the National Particle Accelerator Conference, March 10-12, 1~65.~ This paper reports on similar measurements on the completed injector as installed on the SLAC two-mile accelerator. The measureme...

SLAC - PUB - 13289 June , 2008 MEASUREMENTS AND ANALYSIS OF LONGITUDINAL HOM DRIVEN COUPLED BUNCH MODES IN PEP - II RINGS

The growth rates of the longitudinal higher-order impedance-driven beam modes have greatly increased since the initial PEP-II design and commissioning. This increase is attributed to the addition of 6 1.2MW RF stations with 8 accelerating cavities in the HER and 2 1.2MW RF stations with 4 accelerating cavities in the LER, which allowed operations at twice the design current and almost four time...

SLAC Linac RF Performance for LCLS

The Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) project at SLAC uses a dense 15 GeV electron beam passing through a long undulator to generate extremely bright xrays at 1.5 angstroms. The project requires electron bunches with a nominal peak current of 3.5kA and bunch lengths of 0.020mm (70fs). The bunch compression techniques used to achieve the high brightness impose challenging tolerances on the acce...

A New High Power Klystron for the Slac B-factory

A new klystron for driving the SLAC B-Factory is currently under development at Philips. Detailed numerical analysis has been carried out in order to meet all the requirements. Particular attention is paid to the bandwidth and phase behavior of the tube because the upper limit in group delay is given by the control system of the BFactory. Although bandwidth and efficiency are competing demands ...

SLAC - PUB - 5070 LBL - 27760 UCRL - 101688 August 1989 ( A / E ) Recent Progress in

Experimental work is now under way by collaborators at LLNL, SLAC, and LBL to invest igate re lat ivist ic k lystrons as a possible rf power source for future highgradient accelerators. We have learned how to overcome our previously reported problem of high-power rf pulse shortening and have achieved peak rf power levels of 290 MW. We have used the rf from a relativistic klystron to power a sho...
